Wholesale books from Library and Educational Services, LLC ~ a TOS review
Morning friends! It’s time to share another fabulous review with you. Today, I am excited to tell you about the hardcover book bundle that we received from Library and Educational Services LLC. One of my goals as a homeschooling Mama is to foster a love of reading for my kids. Since Marie was a baby we have always had a bookshelf full of books.
So when we started homeschooling it was only natural to build a home library filled with lots of good books. I’m slowly trying to rebuild our home library with hardcover titles and with the help of Library and Educational Services LLC we can add beautiful Reinforced Hardcover Library Binding Nonfiction books. They also carry the popular paperbacks like the Who Was . . . series with titles like Who Was Neil Armstrong? In addition to books Library and Educational Services, LLC also carries CD such as the Lifehouse Theater The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Library and Educational Services is a wholesaler of books, CDs, and DVDs. They primarily sell to Christian schools, churches, specialty stores and resellers for the last 40 years specializing in materials for children. They carefully review all items on their site so that they are not contrary to Biblical standards and values. With prices 30% to 70% off publishers' list prices they are able to pass on the savings to us. The best thing is that homeschoolers get the same discount that other schools receive!
We were blessed to receive a gift certificate for $73.88 to spend on:
~ One title from the Who Was ... ? series : we picked Who Was Neil Armstrong
~ One CD from the Lifehouse Theater CDs series: we picked The Emperor’s New Clothes
~ Then we could spend $60 or $63 worth of Reinforced Hardcover Library Binding Nonfiction books. For this option we picked:

Hands-on History Timeline with Home School in the Woods ~ a TOS review
It’s Friday friends!
And the beginning of August! The summer just flew by for us, which is perfectly fine because that means we are that much closer to the hubby coming home. Today I am excited to tell you {again} how much I love the products from Home School in the Woods!!! So much so, that when a call went out to help fill a review spot for the Timeline Collection: A Collection of Historical Timeline Figures, I jumped at the chance to review it.
Our first introduction to the HSITW family was way back in 2011 when I had the opportunity to attend my very first homeschool convention. We battled the summer stormy weather and made the nearly 2 hour drive to the Convention Center. I tell you it was glorious and still is each year I get to attend! While there I stumbled upon a company called Home School in the Woods as I browsed the Vendor Hall. I hit the jackpot that day with this company and we have been making history fun ever since.
History has always been a favorite subject of mine to teach and re-learn with my girls. I grew up learning history from a boring textbook so I am so happy that now I can teach the girls, and soon to be my son, history with awesome hands-on learning. Amy Pak, the talented graphic designer and experienced homeschooler, is the mastermind to everything that Homeschool in the Woods creates. This company has helped transform the way we tackle hands-on history learning ever since.
This timeline collection is absolutely amazing with over 1260 black and white figures! We received a family license of the digital file to use with my family. I could also use them with a small co-op class in the future. Getting started was as easy as downloading the files to my computer and unzipping the files. The downloads come in two parts because of the volume of files. They are big but did not take that long for the whole process.
Each timeline figure is available in two sizes as well, wall or a smaller notebook size. You also have the option of having a description or no description.
Using this in our homeschool has been quite easy over the summer months. Much to my dismay our house does not have many walls, so we utilize our timeline book and a pocket chart to display our figures. My older girls have kept timelines over the years but now it is my 7th and 4th graders time to keep theirs.
Our next school year begins in a few short weeks and we are going to be studying different time periods. It just happened to work out this way, not the best idea, but we have made it through before. Montana will be studying the second half of World history while Mikayla and McKenzie will be venturing through American history at their own levels.
McKenzie will also be studying the Presidents this year, so I chose to focus on helping her get a head start memorizing them. To do this I simply printed the timeline figures out and attached them to a cut index card. On the back I wrote the Presidents number and used the figure with description for the other side.
Overall, I have nothing but good things to say about Home School in the Woods. I sing their praises to everyone who wants to talk about History or timelines. We love using the Timeline Collection: A Collection of Historical Timeline Figures from Home School in the Woods for more than just our history timeline! During the course of our school year the girls will keep their book of time in their notebooks. It’s always great to look back and see what they have done come Senior year.

But don’t just take my word for it! Check out what my CrewMates thought of this product as well as the other curricula that was offered for review. You can also read a great article about how to get started with your own timeline.

Homeschool science for middle school with Apologia's Exploring Creation with General Science, 3rd edition ~ a TOS review
We are big fans of the K-12 science curriculum from Apologia Educational Ministries. I am sure you have heard of Apologia Educational Ministries if you are a homeschooler. If you are not, let me tell you a little about them. Apologia is one of those companies that everybody talks about and for good reason too! Apologia publishes K-12 Creation-based science and worldview curriculum for children K-12, inspirational books about homeschooling, and hosts online classes through Apologia Academy.

This year, I will have a seventh grader as we head into our 11th year of our homeschooling journey! Seventh grade in our homeschool marks the transitional year as we start our college prep studies and our focus on STEM study. If you are looking for middle a school science course, you need to read my review of Exploring Creation with General Science, 3rd Edition from Apologia.
For this review Apologia graciously sent us the Basic Set that includes the hardcover Textbook, Spiral bound Student Notebook, and Solutions and Test manuals.
Textbook: a 430 page hardcover textbook written to the student. It includes photographs, charts, and graphs over a wide range of science disciplines to give a broad overview of the sciences. Like other Apologia books, the password to access the book extras are located inside this book. Be sure to check these helpful extras out.
Student Notebook: a spiral bound, consumable notebook that is essential to the transition from elementary to middle school. The notebook helps to teach the all important skill of note taking and writing lab reports. Many of the Labs have been updated for the 3rd edition. Lab materials can be found at the Dollar store or around the house.
Solutions and Test Manuals: these softcover books are provided to aid the teacher in helping the student complete the course. The tests include matching, multiple-choice, and short answer questions like you would find on a nationalized standard test such as the SAT/ACT. The first two tests are meant to be completed as open book tests.
This newest edition of General Science was updated and created to bridge the gap between elementary, teacher-led science, to be a more independent science program starting in 7th grade. This curriculum can be used in 8th grade as well, but it is intended to be the first science course taken in Junior High.
As I said above, our college prep science series starts in 7th grade. Because of this, I chose to purchase the MP3 Audio CD, and Video Instruction Thumb Drive on my own for use with this homeschool science for middle school course.
This General Science curriculum includes 14 modules of learning. Lessons, Labs, and other hands-on activities are scheduled out for you and your student in the Student Notebook. A great feature of the Student Notebook is that the curriculum is scheduled out over 4 days for 33 weeks of the year.
This course in General Science is Creation based and reinforces principles of the Bible. It will help your child be able to defend what they believe as they learn the facts of the science realm. This is one of the reasons why our family chooses Apologia for our science curriculum from elementary through high school.
Montana has enjoyed this curriculum during our summer learning. The updated 3rd edition is the right amount of rigor for her to begin her college prep series. I like the format of the Student Notebook and the way it guides the student through the learning process.
Having the opportunity to purchase the lecture CD has been a tremendous help for us as well. Montana is able to watch the lecture and get the reinforcement of what she read in the book as well. Since the 3rd edition is a bit different that the 2nd edition that I have used with my three older girls, I also elected to purchase the MP3 audio CD to have the textbook read to me. That way I can help Montana in her weekly learning and we both are on the same page so to speak.

Hands down, we love this new edition of Apologia’s Exploring Creation with General Science and will be using it as our main 7th grade science curriculum for the 2019-2020 school year! But don’t just take our word for it! Check out what 38 of my CrewMates thought of this set by clicking the link below.
