I Will Survive…

Have you seen this video? I came across it on Tracy’s blog A Slice of Smith Life and knew I had to post it.  A lot of families will be returning back to homeschool tomorrow, including us after a week long vacation hiatus. Just know that if this is what God has called you to do, you can not fail!

Have a GREAT year…YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Sunshine Haven ~OBX part 1

I was skeptical when the Lt. brought up the idea back in December 2009 of going to the beach for vacation. I have fond memories of spending summers on Cape Cod, MA in a beach house with my family, so I said let’s do it! Christmas day  we booked our vacation and it felt good to know that after the Lt.’s 7 month deployment we would be beach bound.

1

To say we had an amazing time would be an understatement. The 4 days we vacationed in the Outer Banks (OBX) were amazing! We were evacuated Wed. morning (Sept. 1st) because of Hurricane Earl. Our oceanfront rental was called "Sunshine Haven" and the name did not let you down. We enjoyed the most beautiful sunrises. It was so relaxing just sitting on the upper deck and listening as the waves slapped the shore. Each new day was alive with the sounds of singing seagulls and relaxing ocean breezes.

The house was big and more spacious than we needed for vacation, but we knew we wanted to be oceanfront with the littles. I loved how it was so bright and airy. With lugging beach chairs, an umbrella, food, toys, and 5 children to the beach daily, it was well worth the extra money paid for oceanfront property.

The girls shared a bunk room and we even brought McKenzie’s pack N’ play, which she didn’t sleep in, but it was a nice jester.

The house offered all the comforts a home away from home. Well, maybe except the fact that they forgot to mention to bring your own toliet paper! On our first night we had to drive 20 minutes south to the next town to buy TP from the Food Lion. That store was a mad house! The occupancy in the OBX triples on Saturdays and Sundays with everyone checking into their rentals. I stood in line with my toliet paper and Lysol for nearly 20 minutes. Finally, the lady in front of me with the stacked cart graciously offered to let me go ahead of her. THANK YOU!!!

TOS Review ~ Time 4 Learning

t4l_preschool_logo

You didn’t hear any complaining going on around here from Montana when I announced it’s Time 4 Learning.  She loved her Preschool computer time and I loved it too because she didn't realize she was actually learning! Mikayla and Madison eagerly jumped in to assist if she ever got stuck and to play a few games themselves.

Time4Learning is a convenient online educational website that offers games and educational programs for math and language arts for grades Pre-K through 8th. Year after year Homeschool.com selects Time 4 Learning as one of the "Top 100 Educational Websites" for it’s animated and interactive activities, printable worksheets, and detailed reporting.

lesson-plans[1]

Initially I enrolled each of the girls, but the older ones never showed any interest so I focused on getting Montana on the computer daily. She received a separate login and password to access her lessons, while I also received a separate login to track skill progress, access records, and more. Montana was able to work  at her age level as well as go a level lower or higher when needed.

Subscription Cost for the program is $19.95 for first child and $14.95 for each additional child per month .

What’s included in the cost:

  • Online Curriculum for Preschool to 8th Grade
  • 1,000+ Student-Paced Animated Lessons
  • Math Exercises & Printable Worksheets
  • Language Arts from Phonics through Reading
  • Science & Social Studies In Most Grade Levels
  • Automated Reporting for Easy Record Keeping
  • Detailed Lesson Plans for Parents
  • Lessons Correlated to State Standards

progress-reports[2]

This program can be used for homeschoolers, after school or summer school programs, preschools and daycares. It is more than just playing simple games, your child is actually learning new skills or brushing up on past learned skills. I am impressed with the program and all that it offers, unfortunately, the price will keep us from subscribing further. If however, I felt that my girls needed an “extra” because of struggles in the math or language art department, I would definitely look to Time 4 Learning as my first resource.

Want to try it out for yourself? Time 4 Learning offers a free 14 day trial of the site which includes  lesson demos, and a  scope and sequence.

You can find what others thought of Time 4 Learning as well as their other products like Time 4 Writing and Spelling City at the TOS Homeschool Review Crew!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~   I am a member of The Old Schoolhouse 2010-2011 Crew and as such received a copy of Time 4 Learning in exchange for a thorough and honest review.  Though I am compensated with free products, I am not compensated in the form of cash for my reviews.  The opinions I have given are mine and may differ from others but are not influenced by the company or the free product provided .
